Why we are likely to lose gambling at the Casino
- submitted by HasilHebat

I have come to the conclusion that Lack of Discipline is the main cause of most of our losses at a casino. I have often gambled at casino and I have noticed that when I applied some discipline in myself I normally end up a winner.

I trust the secret to winning at casino is to adopt certain rules in our gambling practices at the casino. First, we need to be discipline to know when to leave the table. Be it you have lost a certain amount of money or be it you have won a certain amount of money. We should tell ourselves that if we have lost an X amount of money then we must leave the table, take a break for a few hours before continue. Or if we have won a certain X amount we would leave the table too. In the winning case, the targetted X amount should not be greater than your initial start off capital amount. This is important as it is really difficult to win more than what you have started off with in the beginning. (rare exception is when you have damn good luck) So, we must not be bounded by time, but we must be bounded by the amount of money being gambled. Therefore, if within 10 minutes we happen to be winning close to half of what you have started, then you need to stop and leave the table. Not easy, because we tend to have the tendency to play on as most of us gamble for entertainment too, not just for winning. And that is the killer fact that bringsforth our downfall in gambling. So be extremely discipline, especially when you are winning. Its easier to stop when losing because you probably have lost interest to gamble more. But can we stop if we have lost our initail start up amount within 10 minutes? are we discipline enough to do so?

The next discipline is about our tendency to increase/descrease our stakes on & off in every bidding. This is a bad habit to adopt too. We must understand that if you win, often it is across a period of time where luck seems to be strong with you. If you plan to go for the spur of the moment type of gambling where you dump in a huge amount in one single bidding, then you must be prepared to win or lose big within few minutes then leave the table. Or else, it will spell big disaster. This kind of gambling will not be for entertainment at all. It is strictly for taking a risky chance and hope to win big.

Gambling is a wonderful game and entertainment if you are able to look at it that way. Have a positive approach to gambling - Do not expect gambling to win you big money and maybe one day it can happen where you will win big. Remember, it is said that most of the Jackpot winners were those that went to gamble for fun, not those serious gamblers.

The king of pop is dead
- submitted by alie

I guess by now, everyone would have heard this morning's news that Michael Jackson has passed away. My sister called me around 8.30am this morning with the news. It's not like she's a fan of his (not that I know of, anyway) but she sounded like someone close has died! Sure enough, when I turned on the radio, they were playing home of his songs "You are not alone".

The first thing that came to my mind is how sad.....a sad ending to a sad life. To die at the age of 50, that's too young and at a stage in his life whereby there were so many scandals linked to him. He was looking forward to & preparing hard for his concert in England but he never got the chance for, in his own words, his last curtain call.

Whether you're a fan or not, one fact remains and that he is truly gifted and made an impact to the music world. He revolutionise the making of music videos....who can forget his 'Thriller' mv. Although I'm not a fan, I remembered watching it with awe.

R.I.P.

LHDN (Inland Revenue)
- submitted by alie

Are you one of the many who are still waiting for a response from the Inland Revenue Dept concerning your tax assessment?

I submitted my 2007 income tax assessment (Borang BE) by post before the deadline in April 2008 but to date, have yet to receive any response from them. According to my calculations, I'm due for a tax refund.

I finally decided to try my luck and gave them a call at the toll free number stated on the Borang BE. To my surprise, my call was answered very quickly and the tax consultant spoke in English.

He already has my I/C No. as a reference (you need to key in your I/C or tax ref. at the recorded message initially) and he was able to attend to my queries.

He gave me the exact dates they received my Borang BE for both 2007 and 2008....and told me the exact tax refund I'm entitled to. All in a matter of 5 minutes or less. He informed that it is not necessary to write in to request for the refund as he will inform their counterpart in Kelana Jaya on my behalf and that they will process the payment once they finalised my 2008 assessment.

Good thing I called them this time round as I've had bad experiences with this department years ago where my calls were never answered and when it does get answered (finally) the officers could hardly speak English and my command of Bahasa is slightly better than their command of English! In those days, just don't waste your time trying to call, you have to take day's leave from work to go there personally to sort out your income tax matters. What a hassle!

Another matter : I'm reluctant to do e-filing as the conventional way of using Mr Postman is still reliable as can be seen in my case where they've confirmed they received my Borang BE for the past 2 years.

The Government should show some respect to the people
- submitted by HasilHebat

I am a businessman, and I have to deal with all kinds of government departments yearly. Often, I get various departments requesting for an inspection of my company's documents etc. And the way they arrange this is simply by sending me a letter stating that when, what date & time, and where the appointment will be, and expect me to be available with all the documents ready in hand for them.

First of all, I don't owe them anything to need to entertain such method of demands for an appointment. Secondly, please respect me, please do proper call up to fix an appointment with me. I do not like such appointments being fixed without my prior consent and agreement. I really wish to ask the government as to if they have the right to just fix an appointment without my prior consent. Whether its legal or not for the government to do so, is not the issue here. The issue is it is both RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL for the government to fix an appointment for the people without the people's consent. If they have such a right to do so, then they should consider changing such a rule. We are PEOPLE, we are not DOGS! We do not jump when you ask us to JUMP. We expect respect from the Government.

And where are our oppositions voice on this? This is whats worth fighting for, A RESPECT campaign from the government! Our oppositions are fighting on all the wrong battlefields, thats why they can never win and take over the governance of the country.

Halfday on Vegetarian
- submitted by meatnote

There are a substantial number of people now on permanent vegetarian diet, some due to health problems, some opted to do so for better health or for religious reasons.

Recently, I decided to try to go for a daily half-day vegetarian diet. And seriously, half a day on vegetarian for a few days has proven not easy. For one, it becomes difficult to decide what to eat as there really isn't much options when it comes to vegetarian food & diet. Then, most of the vegetarian food (chinese style cooking) taste more or less the same, even though they may look different. Some even looked delicious until you eat it! Damn! same taste! And somehow, without meat, food can never taste good! Eating fruits for your meals also poses a problem as you seem unable to get full and remain in hunger! Not to mention eating lotsa fruits cost a lot of money too! Damn! I wonder how those people on serious permanent vegetarian diet survives? Anyway, I hope to be able to continue on my half-day vegetarian diet & survive! Hope I will not die of hunger!

Are Singaporeans really kiasu?
- submitted by HasilHebat

KIASU - all along I thought it was just another joking term referencing Singaporeans. But when I was at this petrol station in Johor Bahru lately, I actually witnessed how KIASU they can be. I saw a few Singaporeans filling up their car with petrol, and when the petrol dispenser auto-stopped, they actually peep into the petrol funnel and try to continue to fill up to the MAX they can take! The whole event took them as long as 2-3 mintues, just to make sure they get every possible drop of "cheap" petrol into their cars. (btw, I know for sure they are from sg because I saw their sg passport on the dashboard in the car.)

Customers Hipocrisy
- submitted by sputnik

An unhappy customer came to us complaining that the product was not satisfactory, and we offerred a refund for that product. But this customer says, Money was not the issue here, and that their disappointment was greater importance etc etc. After dealing with the customer satisfactorily, she accepted the rerfund and apologies from us.

A month later she came to us to purchase some goods, and this time as we know her so well after the incident, she dares to ask us for DISCOUNT! Damn, I did recall very well that she was so proud that Money was not important to her and that she could afford it. Why then, now she came to ask for DISCOUNT? HIPOCRITES!

How cheap can you be?
